San Andres Islands takes the Honor

San Andrés Islands take the honor of being chosen for the Independence Day Celebration by the Colombian Embassy in Panama City.

The Ambassador of Colombia to Panama Gina Benedetti de Vélez celebrated our country’s independence with a lavish celebration of the traditional foods of the Archipiélago San Andrés.
There were typical foods like the Rondón or Run Down, a conch and fish soup thickened with yuca and ñame thas is slow cooked in a very large ceramic pot where the coconut milk is heated with basil and pepper to flavor it for the addition of the rest of the ingredients. It was served in totumo cups, the large seed of the totumo or Calabash tree. The display was beautiful, the dances made us all want to jump and move, bringing out all of our black ancestry to its finest. We were served coconut drinks and a large variety of coconut sweets including pies, cakes and cocadas.
Good day!
